In this silence, I believe.

Guess who's going to see this amazing lady tonight?

And because this puts me in such a good mood, I will give New York some love. Thanks for never disappointing me in the concert department. As long as the show doesn't get cancelled due to all this snow- Thanks. You make my heart happy.

I ran a 5K last night, so lets hope I stay awake long enough to enjoy this amazing opportunity.

In a google search, I found this amazing music mash up (I don't know how to link it in, so if you have a second you should click over there.) Trent, Sarah and Snap? Holy Awesome 90s, Batman!

[music] You saved my life once [well, more than once]

Seriously. Give me a piano and I'm a happy girl.

Wakey!Wakey! is my new favorite. I haven't found a song I don't like yet.

Brooklyn and Almost Everything rock, too.

Stand Up and Get Crunk

I'm not sure if you've checked out the new batch of Saints songs in the recent years, but I hadn't heard a couple of them. Now, of course, they are all on my ipod in my New Orleans playlist.

Is it just me, or is it the mental image of your parents jamming to "Stand up and get Crunk" the funniest shit ever? I can no longer listen to this song with a straight face (which I'm sure that's a sight on the subway).

Before the last playoff game, my dad told my sister "We about to get Crunk". When she told me, I nearly fell out. I love my dad.

Boredom has reached new heights, people.

I am singing children's jesus songs.

WTF? you ask.
It started last night. The BF made a stop off here before getting on a plane today. We took a nap as soon as I got out of class and by the time midnight rolled around, I didn't feel like sleeping. So I started singing. "Father Abraham had many sons. Many sons had Father Abraham. . . " (and now it's stuck in your head. haha)

This has lead me to youtubing all those songs I remember singing as a child (which is a fancy way of saying procrastinating my homework). I'm collecting the lyrics so when I get bored on our 20 hour roadtrip home for Christmas, I can bust out with some of them. Good plan? Probably not. But I think I have decided Im going to live blog the whole trip for our safety (we might kill each other) and his mentality (which he has already looked into giving me sleeping pills).

What songs do you remember singing as a kid?

Ra Ra oh La La.

Let's start with I was never an avid Lady Gaga fan. I liked her music, sure, but I just thought she was some privileged brat from Upstate New York who was bored and wanted to shock people with her extravagance. Which I still think, but I'm thoroughly obsessed with her new song and video. Have you checked it out yet?

Please join me in this fascination. I'd even consider going to her concert, but alas it sold out in minutes due to the drama that is stub hub.

Have I mentioned I love Weezer?

and even more so for this:

I WANT
(the zebra one!)
I will be willing to trade someone for the regular blue one. I've never used it, still in the box.

I was listening to music on my computer. I wanted to skip to the next song, so I went for the right click button on my mousepad. and there was none.

New music.

What are you listening to right now?

I need new music in my life.

Finally got around to watching the season finale of One Tree Hill and fell in love with this song. You should check it out, too. Matt Nathanson is pretty cool. If you can get past the first part of the Fray in this video (skip to :50), the song is really awesome and there are some good clips of Peyton and Lucas through the years (and does anyone know if they are going to be on the show this season?! Hello. There is no OTH without them. The End)

And now for some random, but cool. Apparently Scarlett Johansson fancies herself a singer. Is it lame to say Im totally digging this one?

AND Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields are doing this Dead Man's Bones thing. It's different and I'm liking it.

So what do you think?

A devastating blow to a 6 year old.

I didn't want to write about Michael Jackson's death. I didn't see the point with everyone under the sun either blogging, texting or facebooking about it. But I feel I have to share.

My brother got my nieces hooked on MJ's music. He had some DVD of one of his concerts or something and let them watch it one night, I'm assuming in desperation to make them behave. Now, whenever you ask them what they want to watch it's not Dora, Bratz or Barbie's Tinkerbell. No. It's Michael Jackson. They know every song by heart and dance around singing. It's really cute (especially because they have no idea about any of his personal life. They just like his music).

Even when I was little, I remember annoying my Nanny while she was cleaning out her bathroom. She turned to me and said "Beat It". I think she was trying to be intimidating but the goofy serious face gave her away. I giggled and told that was a Michael Jackson song and kept on annoying her. I spent most of my 27 years of life trying to annoy her and she'd always laugh at me.

I just got a phone call from my oldest niece informing me Michael Jackson was dead. She was watching the news (what 6 year old do you know watches the news? Her favorite channel is the History channel, too) and it said they hadn't found his killer yet. When I informed her he had a heart attack, she told me they just said pain killer on the TV. She said she is going to hate to have to tell my other niece because she wanted to date him (remember when you were little and you wanted to date celebrities? Yes. My nieces want to date Michael Jackson. wow.) and she's going to cry a lot.

She also told me she is so excited that Nanny gets to meet Michael Jackson, because they're both in heaven now, you know? That's right, Hay, they are both in heaven now.

Abnormally attracted to sin

Guess who's putting out a new album May 19th?

Guess who's going on tour and will be in New York August 13 at Radio City Music Hall?

Who's coming with me?
Cannot. Wait.

Tapestry of Nations

I had an emo- moment on the train this morning. Actually it was more like an emotional 20 minutes including tears. I had my ipod on shuffle and The Tapestry of Nations soundtrack came on.

It was my favorite parade in Epcot when I was working in Disneyworld. I still get chills from the music, which was specifically wordless to signify the coming together of all nations. There were 3 different parades running through the World Showcase at the same time of these enormous puppets that were strapped onto cast members who made them dance. It was amazing. Whenever I was stressed out or really homesick, I would run over to Epcot and catch the parade and it always made me feel better. A lot of my Disney magic might have gotten ruined from working there, but at least I would always have that parade to bring it back. One of my really good friends there and I would sometimes pick up extra shifts and work crowd control for it often- then hang around for Illuminations (the firework show that was so much more than a firework show) or catch a couple of rides of Test Track while everyone else was watching (God, to be a cast member and have ride swap tickets again- Steph? Gabby? Shannel? Remember that?! Cast members who worked in Attractions would trade Fast Passes and Baby Swaps so we'd never have to wait in line for rides when we'd go to the parks for fun).

Sometimes I really miss working there. Then I remember how stupid tourists can be.

This is the best video I could find. It doesn't do it justice but you get the idea.

The next year when I went back to work for the summer, they had already ruined it by changing it to Tapestry of Dreams or some bullshit. My friend (she stayed and became a character) refused to let me go see it because she knew it would upset me too much.

Speaking of Illuminations- wanna hear about one of the cutest dates I've ever been on?

I dated one of my co-workers (actually I dated 2 or 3 of my co-workers . . but that's another story) for a very brief time (He was 17 and I was 19. He drove me nuts! but he was absolutely head over heels, so I appeased him for awhile). Our first "date", he took me to Beach and Cream (which if you've never been to this fabulous restaurant, you must. It's in The Beach Club Hotel right outside of Epcot) and we ordered The Kitchen Sink (every type of ice cream and every topping literally served in a kitchen sink) then we walked over to Epcot to watch Illuminations. I was being a bitch at the time and didn't understand why he was so excited about showing me a firework show- I didn't live under a rock, I had been to one or two before. But of course, this is Disney and nothing is ever not over the top.

Halfway through the show, as I stood there with my mouth wide open in awe, he put his arms around me and whispered "Just a firework show?" That was a pretty damn magical moment if you ask me. But I would never admit that to him :-)

PS- Wanna see me at 19?
haha!!! This was my Graduation Day/ Last day of work. I don't look anything like that now.

On a roll. No jinxing allowed.

Another fabulous commute! What can I say? Things like that really affect you. No wonder so many New Yorkers are miserable. Their commute is crowded, jerky and smelly. I'd be in a bad mood, too, if that was the beginning of my morning (and I usually am). Most mornings my train isn't obnoxiously crowded (if I leave late enough. Sacrificing being on time to work, but ask me if I care.) I can only imagine the trains downtown. I know it's a much trendier area to live, but my sanity is much more important to me.

And it was a New- Music Morning (which you should know by now are my favorite mornings! It's always great motivation. If you get your ass out of bed right now you can listen to 3 extra new songs on the train) so of course, I'm in a good mood.

But not good enough to endure stupid co-workers. I will still very bluntly state "Go. Away." and turn up the ipod so I cannot hear their response.

Her name was lola.

So, funny story.

Well, it is to me and I thought I would share.

My all time favorite summer in college was the summer I lived on Magnolia Street with one of my sorority sister and her cousin. It was a classic story of the country mouse (her) and the city mouse (me). She taught me how to balance while trying to drunkenly pee outside and all the words to The Devil went down to Georgia and I taught her how to put eyeliner on- j/k. I don’t know what I taught her. Anyway, I’d give anything to go back to that summer.

Another one of her cousins who lived in Baton Rouge would visit a lot. His music selection is to die for. It’s amazing but at the time I couldn’t appreciate it because all we were listening to was the music they played in the bars. So, part of our nightly tradition of drinking and playing board games (mostly Cranium and sometimes Trivial Pursuit if we were feeling like a marathon, but we’d never get through it. Everyone would get too drunk and no one knew the answers sober, much less drunk, so we’d get bored) we’d put on one of his CDs with the obscure music on it and usually he was the only one jamming because most of it we had never heard of. During one of the party playlists, Copa Cabana came on and in our drunken stupor, we found this quite amusing for some reason.

One weekend my sorority sister was out of town with a few of my other sisters and I was left to my own devices, which always included alcohol. This particular night, I wanted pancakes and it just so happened I would only eat pancakes if she made them (She makes them perfect- not doughy at all. I hate doughy pancakes and runny eggs. Nothing grosses me out more). I can’t cook and even if I tried, I didn’t want to burn down the house in the process. I was drunk and in need of sustenance, so I figured calling her at 3am to tell her to drive 4 hours and come make me pancakes was a good plan. Unfortunately, she was passed out already but another sister answered her phone and I told her to give her a message. Tell her "Her name was Lola". Of course, she didn’t get it but the next morning she passed it along and had no idea why it invoked hysterical laughter.

And that was it. To this day, when we get drunk (and think about it) we will text each other the lyrics. We never get passed "She would merengue and do the cha-cha" but that’s ok. It’s our thing. God, I miss her.

I just heard it on my ipod and texted her. I hope she doesn’t think I’m drunk at 8am, but then again there is no telling ;-P

I have a feeling I told yall this story already? Oh, well.

I like my coffee black; like my metal.

(Shut me up- MSI)
No matter what, the day after I download new music and put it on my ipod is always a good day. New music will generally lift my spirits, even on a Monday. Which is exactly what happened this morning.

Have I mentioned I hate my job? I know I shouldn't be bitching about my job, especially right now- at least I still have one. It's just so disheartening that a company with such prestige is being ruined by a few people that have no clue what they are doing. It sort of feels like when I first saw Mickey without his head on when I was working in Disneyworld. It was so disturbing and I lost little of the magic- no pun intended (a little hint to my current employer. lol) It's getting harder and harder to bide my time, that's all I can say.

Another plus for today, I finally wore my new shoes to work. Well, technically, I carried them to work and put them on here. Baby steps, people. I haven't worn heels in over a year and it scares the hell out of me. I have just come to the realization I am deathly afraid of falling (in every sense of the word actually now that I think about it. hmmm). Wearing heels and walking on the uneven broken sidewalks is just asking to have face contact with the concrete. I am far from the professional stiletto walker that I was when I was 19. Plus I have gotten accustom to walking with long and fast strides which trying to concentrate on walking in heels inhibits this. But I'm going to do it, even if it takes me another year, I will master this.

And I just realized I'm going to DC this weekend. Totally forgot about it, but I'm glad. I need out of the city at least once a month to maintain the small amount sanity I still possess and I need a break from my self inflicted bed ridden weekend jail sentences. And figuring out how to pack 2 days worth of stuff into a backpack should keep me mystified for the rest of the week.

Just realized there is a hole in the crotch of my Betsy Johnson tights. This is going to be interesting on how I get it not to run because there is no way I'm running around this city in 50 degree weather with bare legs.
Goodness Gracious. I'm a mess. Happy effing Monday.

[Title of Show]

If you haven't heard of this musical, you must youtube it. I don't think I would do it justice trying to explain it, so please direct your attention to wiki for a moment.

Last night I was lucky enough to see the closing performance from the front row and it was the saddest thing I've ever experienced. Standing ovations, open sobbing from the audience and cast members was enough to break any one's heart. The story is such an inspiration to all those in the arts who have ever had the courage to dream big. Even with its closing, it still sends the message to go after your dreams. If you succeed, take nothing for granted and if you put your whole heart into something that you are proud of, there is no chance you can fail.
It hurts my heart that after 102 shows, this musical is closing but I don't think this is the last we will see of this group.
And in honor of inspiration, please listen to this.
Die Vampire Die.

My favorite song when I was 14

was "Only happy when it rains" By Garbage. The entire Pink album (it's actually self-titled. I just like the pink fuzziness of it) totally blew my Catholic school skirt up. Shirley Manson was (and still is) fabulous with her red hair out of a bottle (what can I say? I have a thing for fake redheads)

Why oh why must you inform us of this?- You ask? Because I have reverted back to my 1995 music collection in which I so carefully stowed away under "Open at your own risk: suicidal thoughts may occur". (I associated my depression back then with the music I used to listen to and only allowed Tori Amos out of that box. But alas, my crazy thought process was wrong, per usual.) I can't believe I let all this amazing music get dusty for so long.

Anyway- Here are a few songs that are making me happy at the moment (12 years later):

* Dashboard and We've Got Everything -Modest Mouse
* Viva la Vida and Lost -Coldplay
* Punk Rock Princess -Something Corporate (which the lead singer is also the guy behind Jack's Mannequin. Sue me, I'm like 3 years too late on this knowledge)
* When Your Heart Stops Beating -Plus 44
* Dropped and Do the Panic -Phantom Planet
* Hallelujah and That's what you get -Paramore
* Cookie Jar- Gym Class Heroes
* Shut Up and Let me Go -The Ting Tings
* The Fortunate -Cartel
* Five colors in her hair -McFly

Let's not forget about my girls:

* Untouched and Hook Me Up -The Veronicas
* Pocket Full of Sunshine -Natasha Bedingfield
* Tears Dry on Their Own and You know I'm no good -Amy Winehouse
* You're so Gay and Mannequin -Katy Perry edited for Freddie Weddie.
* Stronger -Britney Spears
* It's Amazing -Jem
* Labels and Love -Fergie
* When I grow up -Pussycat Dolls (how did that get in there?! Not to be mixed up with the Garbage song which has the same name. . . but they both make me happy)

And to go full circle with the 90s alternative (the ones I'm willing to admit to):

* Zero and Bullets with Butterfly Wings -Smashing Pumpkins
* Anything and Everything from Sixteen Stone by Bush
* The Blue Album -Weezer

Now Go- Fill your lives with music that makes me happy.

Sorry, guys. If I write about anything heavier than what's in my ipod and making me happy, I might just lose my goddamn mind. . . well, what's left of it anyway. I. hate. my. life. today.
