The essence of New York City

What is your idea of the essence of New York City? If you had to take a snapshot of something/one that encompasses your idea of the city, what would it be?

I'm having a hard time with this right now. All I'm getting is a dirty overflowing trash can. Obnoxious illegal immigrants. Shady people. Tiny apartments with no room. Rude motherfuckers. Scam artists.

You can pretty much say, I'm over New York City.
I think it's time for another getaway.

I get through the hard times in NYC knowing that I live where many people dream to but aren't strong enough to. Living in NY is about doing what you want to do when you want to because it is available to you. We have everything here if you just look for it.

It is undoubtedly a melting pot of culture and diversity. When I think of NYC, I think of all of the different backgrounds that have a "home" there and that's what I appreciate most. Especially knowing the history of the area and how it was built up by people wanting to live the American dream- just like you. People go to NY to fulfill a dream or accomplish a goal and it's there for the taking.
